Tealia Ellis Ritter was born in Illinois in 1978. She studied at Columbia College of Chicago. These images are from a body of work called, "The Live Creature and Ethereal Things." These images depict people from Ritter's daily life and strangers she meets. I find these images captivating not only because of the titling but also because of the captivating stare that each person has. In Ritter's work she states that although the subject matter has completely control of the space and what they where she creates the images to look like European society portraits.

As I travel to and from different areas of Europe I meet new people and visit some old friends. The fist two image is of friends I have met in my time here. It has been great so far to meet all these people from all over. I also had an amazing opportunity to see an old friend from Milwaukee while she studies in Paris, France.

Iain McKell was born in Dorset, England. He studied graphics design and then moved to London in 1980. McKell has been successfully working in fashion, advertising, and social documentary. He photographed Madonna for her first magazine cover one week before she hit number one on the british charts. His images are beautiful and informative. His work "The New Gypsies," was started in 2001 and continued until 2010. His shows a breathtaking underground society that almost makes you want to join them. He brings to light the conditions that these people live and raise there children in, in such a manner that makes you almost want to join them. The raw portraits to the breathtaking landscapes are what really drew me to his work.

Mike Brodie is an american born in 1985 not much older than myself. He never formally studied photography and in 2004 took off on a great adventure creating his one and only series, "The Polaroid Kidds." For four years he documented his travels through the rail system capturing without any pressures. His work is honest and forthcoming. He does not try to glamourize the lives of those he comes upon. He captures them as they are. Brodie no longer photographs and has decided to become a mechanic.

Week Three: Boys

One of my best friends is now my favorite person to photograph. Both of these boys were so at ease in front of the camera it took a second to take these. They both have these little smirks and gentle eyes that I just can't get enough of. This week was my favorite week of photographing besides the fact that we got two snow days.

Week Two: Getting Comfortable

I had a lot of trouble trying to get a great picture while still allowing the subject to remain comfortable. These two images are of friends that are from outside of Milwaukee. Both of them were more than happy to pose but both of them were a little shy. I think I want to reshoot them both hopefully allow them to be more comfortable in front of my camera.

Simon Hoegsberg is an amazing photographer. His portraits from both The Thought Project and Faces of New York are not only thought provoking but also breath taking. His sensitivity to light and focus are amazing and his relationship with his subject matter are absorbing. Both Andy and I are very much inspired by his work.
