Ryan McGinley is an American photographer who spent time traveling across the country with his friends. His images capture the purest form of freedom; his subjects lack clothes and all inhibition while they frolic in the natural landscapes. McGinley portrays the freedom of youth and the connection of the human body to the natural landscape through his photographs. More recently McGinley has been photographing nudes in the studio, which brings up the question: when is a naked body a nude and when is it "naked." His photographs ride the fence; his subjects express an emotional depth and are sometimes extremely vulnerable in front of the camera. I am so drawn to his portraits and his landscape/human interaction pieces because of their sensitivity of the human body and it's relation to the environment.
